WELCOME TO ILLUSIONS CAMP!

Welcome to the
ART OF ILLUSIONS SUMMER CAMP!

Bridget Riley is an OP Artist who created some remarkable illusions in art!

We are going to work together to create some awesome illusions this week.

First, let's consider . . . WHAT IS AN ILLUSION? Share with us!

Next, why draw an illusion? What do we accomplish by drawing illusions?

Last - HOW can we create illusions?

The primary supplies we will use are:

1. Ebony pencils to create VALUES (this is a super important word for us this week - we will practice creating different values on what is called a VALUE SCALE)
2. Paper blenders or tortillions
3. Good quality colored pencils like prismacolor
4. Erasers, rulers and other supplies

That's it!

Can't wait to talk and get to know each of you - I hope you leave camp feeling SUPER PROUD!

Trompe l'oeil

Check out these works of art that TRICK THE EYE . . .  William Michael Harnett was a master of trompe l'ceil . . . it's hard to not want to pick at these canvases but they are completely two dimensional.

A FUN WEEK!

Hello, again artists! I had a wonderful time making art and getting to know each of you this week! KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK THIS SUMMER! Get yourself an ebony pencil and a tortillion and GO CRAZY! I am so proud of your efforts and each of you truly impressed me with your creativity and hard work. Display your work proudly! Teach your friends! Happy Summer! Love, Mrs. Huckle aka "Mrs. Peanut Butter" (to group 1, lol)

Butterfly with Shadow

Your skills at creating illusions are growing STRONGER! To create this butterfly, we will need to do some cutting of our white papers today. This technique will create the illusion that the butterfly is not part of the paper. The shadow and the butterfly CANNOT be a precise shape match - why do you think it would spoil the illusion of a shadow if they matched precisely in size and shape? Let's play with a flashlight to see if we can figure it out.
