Your skills at creating illusions are growing STRONGER! To create this butterfly, we will need to do some cutting of our white papers today. This technique will create the illusion that the butterfly is not part of the paper. The shadow and the butterfly CANNOT be a precise shape match - why do you think it would spoil the illusion of a shadow if they matched precisely in size and shape? Let's play with a flashlight to see if we can figure it out.

Check out these works of art that TRICK THE EYE . . .  William Michael Harnett was a master of trompe l'ceil . . . it's hard to not want to pick at these canvases but they are completely two dimensional.

DRAWING A WATER DROPLET The illusions you can create are almost infinite with just a single drop of water! Famous artist MC Escher created many works of art with reflective surfaces like glass or water. As you play with a simple droplet in your work of art, you may be inspired to create a picture that is surreal or mysterious like Escher. Let's create one droplet step by step using ebony pencil, an eraser, a blending stump and a little bit of white charcoal. What inspirations do you have for your final work of art?
